Preamble

• MathsMind is an annual Mathematical Competition.
• Schools in the wider Bay of Plenty Region are invited to send teams of Year 9 and Year 10 students.
• The Year Nine contest usually starts at 1:30 p.m., the Year Ten at 2:20 p.m. Each team has 20 problems to solve in the allocated 45 minutes. With 5 points being awarded for each correct answer, the winners are the teams with the highest number of points. In the event of a tie, time becomes the deciding factor.

Year 9 Competition
This event ran very well. The questions were pitched at the correct level. Some teams finished with about 1/4 hr to go. This was addressed at the debriefing, it was agreed to not change anything. If a team finished early then they finish early and wait.

Year 10 Competition
This event ran into difficulties. The questions were too difficult and two of the answers were incorrect. The students battled on, to their credit, but at least one team failed to submit any correct answers.
